Simply Mellyfluous

flu·en·cyNoun/ˈflo͞oənsē/

1. The quality or condition of being fluent, in particular.
2. The ability to speak or write a foreign language easily and accurately.

My mom and I decided to learn Chinese and relearn Spanish simultaneously. I am probably halfway along the journey to becoming fluent in Spanish... but Chinese is a whole new dimension for me. We checked out tapes/discs and books from the library and we each have a notebook for our practices and drills. We are going to practice each day and quiz each other once a week. We are also going to expand our vocabularies in both languages by writing tables with words in English and their respective translations in both Spanish and Chinese. Our goal is to become fluent in both languages... which is entirely possible.

My ultimate linguistic goal is to become fluent in 5-6 languages. I've always loved words... and I am very, very fond of the English language. As humans, we have a lineage... and it amazes me that so many of our dialects also have traceable ancestry. Each language has descended from another language... and I would love to learn the family history of as many languages as I can! I think that for me, fluency would be very.... enabling. To be able to communicate aptly and comfortably with various cultures and regions would be such a privilege and I really hope that with my very hectic life, I will be able to achieve this goal...

Eventually I hope that many languages will be discernible music to my ears :)
