What the Snowflakes See
A small mountain stood waiting
For the children to climb
The snowy trail left nothing
But memories of adulthood behind
Songful hearts echoed
On the granite of hope
Where playful feet dance
And dreams elope
They bottled the air
And swallowed it, too
They filled up their sacks
With the sound of the view
They lingered there for a while
They like to feel small
The green makes them smile
Against the blue, they're tall
They would have lingered longer
To fight the dark from invading the sky
The veil would soon grow stronger
Knowingly, they breathed a collective sigh
The luge carried them coldly
In a race against laughter
Back down the small mountain
Oh what were they after?
The air seeped slowly
So the tickles would stay
Softly they landed
Another year away
Awakened they waltzed
Across the pavement with glee
Worth their salts
Because this freedom is free
The air grew tired and pushed on their lungs
To find a way out
Through the songs that they sung
But they didn't stop singing
For it would leave them still
So their songs turned to winter
As winter revealed its chill
The air that they took returned to its place
As they retired by the flickering fire's embrace
And they sipped on the memories through an over-sized grail
Plotting tomorrow's map to Childhood Trail....
